2XV v Hamilton 3XV
04/10/08
Lochinch
5 - 13

Finally, after a couple of seasons trying, SPRFC 2 hosted Hamilton at Lochinch. After the monsoon had
made the pitch a paddy field, a “new look” MIB (read 6 second rows) received the kickoff and gifted a try to
the visitors within 5 minutes.  Probably sensing an easy victory, Hamilton were somewhat shocked when the
MIB levelled ten minutes later. The equalising points coming from a superb bit of skill shown by Italian boy
Kyle McDougal as he scored from a hack and chase which started on the Police 22.  Game on!
Unfortunately the conditions dictated that “up the jumper” rugby was the order of the day and the two packs
battled up and down the pitch till half time.

The second half was mostly played with Hamilton on the front foot and the Police defending ferociously.
Despite playing in their own half for most of the game (Hamilton having the ball over the line at least three
times) the MIB defence held firm.  Then with ten minutes to go, the Police mounted a rear guard action from
their own line, a spilled ball was gleefully accepted by Hamilton who scored a try in the corner.  Score 5 – 10.
Undeterred, the Polis went looking for a late equaliser but in their haste conceded a soft last minute penalty
in front of their posts which was converted. Final score 5-13 and a sense of frustration for the Police who felt
their 15 man defensive game merited a draw!
