| 1XV v Cumnock 13/09/08 Lochinch 51 - 0 Rugby, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Strathclyde Police Rugby team. Their continuing mission, to explore strange new towns, to seek out new polis and civisfaestations, to boldly go where no polis team has gone before! Cue the music:.......Ah aaah, ah ah ah ah aaah! Captain's Log, Star Date 13.9.08, was flushed down the bog prior to the warm up! The MiB (Men in Blue!), fielded 2 sides this week, with the firsts docked at home, and the seconds a few minutes warp speed away in Cumnock. The firsts crew took the field in upbeat mood with expectations high after last weeks good performance away at Strathendrick, and were led on to the battle field by Captain Chris T. Pher. From the minute they beamed down to planet Lochinch the boys from Cumnock should have known their fate was sealed, as no one with red in their jersey ever makes it back in one piece! With a Chekov his watch by the ref, and a blast on the hailer, the game was afoot. For the second week in a row the MiB were quick out the blocks forcing Cumnock back towards their own line. A Cumnock scrum was stolen by Captain Hook, and a quick pick by McLeod resulted in a try for Paterson in the deep space 9 should have been covering. Missed conversion by the shapeshifter. Was it Deeno, or Keeno? Less than 10 minutes later and a great break through the centres, and a Sulu run by Nick Rossi, who unselfishly slowed up, drew their fullback and passed inside for Captain Chris T. Pher to score under the posts. Deeno or Keeno converted this time! The next 15 minutes saw the police putting together some good phasers to stun the opposition, with another 2 trys. One scored by Deeno, and the second by Keeno, who managed to Klingon to the ball as two players tried to rip it free as he crossed the line. Keeno missed Deeno's conversion and Deeno missed Keeno's conversion! With the bonus point secured the MiB did not let up and continued to apply the pressure, resulting in a 5th try a few minutes from the break for Gowan. The fans on the bridge were loving it. There was some great rugby on display, make no Bones about it! The half time chat was simple and to the point. Keep up the good work and let's have more of the same. Make it so! The second half kicked off and the visitors came out with a bit more fire in their bellies, and tried to have a go at the MiB, but through good defensive work, and good steals at the lineout by Thomson, and the scrum by Captain Hook, the Cumnock players looked to the sky, hoping to be beamed up, rather than continuing to fight a losing battle! After 10 minutes, the MiB showed a good bit of enterprise, and scored their first try of the second half through Rossi. 3 minutes later and Taylor managed to Spock a gap in the visitors defence and cruised in for try number 7. Again, however neither try was converted. Fresh legs were brought onto the field in the form of McNaughton and Logan, replacing the recently returned Ian Waddell, and try a game Taylor! Only on the field for less than 2 minutes, and a quick break and great pass at the end of Logan's run, again unselfishly allowed Captain Chris T. Pher, to score his second try. This time Keeno or Deeno managed the conversion! The police came under some late pressure as Cumnock tried to push for some points and prevent the Grannie. However every time they neared the line, some great defence was displayed by the MiB, who stripped them of the ball and kicked it way back down towards their 15, who it's fair to say had Uhura game! Upset by the superb MiB defence, one of the Cumnock men decided to take his frustration out on the ref and ended up spending the rest of the match on the sideline after seeing yellow. As the final blast was due on the hailer, another kick was sent towards the Cumnock try line. With both home and away fans thinking it'Scotty be cleared by the Cumnock players, Bryson de-cloaked, picked up the ball on the 1 inch line and dived over for try number 9, which was unconverted. Conditions were pretty wet and muddy, and should not have been a day for good handling, which makes the final score of 51 - 0 for the MiB, even more impressive. The 1s have now played 2, won 2, and only conceded 3 points in total. And with the 2s crew winning 50 - 0 away to Cumnock, it was a good day all round for the MiB. For a second week running, man of the match could have gone to so many, however after consultation with the fans watching from the bridge, 2 try Captain Chris T. Pher was nominated as their MOM. A fantastic effort by everyone, lets keep it going into next week and beyond! Team: Waddell, Aikman, Gillies, Gibson, Henderson, Gowan, Thomson, McLeod, Paterson, Keenan, Taylor, Bruce, Butler, Bryson, Rossi Subs: McNaughton and Logan |
