| SPRFC v Hyndland 16/08/08 Hyndland 36 - 21 MIB versus West End Boys Hyndland RFC were the visitors to Lochinch on Saturday as the Police looked to increase the intensity of their preseason training. As in previous years, the playing format would be four x twenty minute periods to allow all the available players to build their case for a 1XV starting berth. A buzz of anticipation was evident, especially as the match was to be played under the Experimental Law Variations. The match itself was a well contested affair with both teams wanting to play open rugby. The visitors started the game stronger and led after forty minutes with some excellent back moves whilst the Police struggled to find any rhythm to their play. The third and fourth sessions showed a marked improvement for the “Men in Black” as they started taking the game to Hyndland and by the final whistle, had shaded the scoring in their favour. Many thanks go to Norrie for refereeing and Hyndland for the much needed match practice. We wish everyone at Scotstoun an enjoyable and injury free season. What They Said - Taken from SRU Website Lifted By The Polis Hyndland's preseason games continued at Lochinch on Saturday when they took on a Strathclyde Police squad who play two divisions above Hyndland. With 20 players being unavailable due to work and holidays, Hyndland scraped 18 guys together and headed into the game with a cobbled together 15. Kicking off, Hyndland caught the Police on the hop when they failed to hold the catch and a limping Russell Waddell hacked through and gathered to score under the posts in what was Hyndland RFCs fastest ever score. Up stepped Craig (Bad Hair) Harvie on his comeback to slot the conversion and Hyndland was 7-0 up before Jack and Victor could get their pipes lit. Receiving the kick-off, Hyndland tore back up the field playing a high risk game of fast movement of the ball with backs and forwards combining to produce some good rugby. Hyndland’s second score was not long in coming as stand-off Tony Smith carved his way over for a good try which he converted himself 14-0. At the end of the first quarter big Russell limped off to be replaced by veteran Alex Mack who raised the age level but lowered the speed level. Hyndland continued to play some decent rugby and soon scored their 3rd and last try from Dr. Paul TT Jones who showed good pace to score under the posts with Tony converting. 21- 0HT Into the second half, the larger squad of the Police began to tell on Hyndland and they began to take control, running in 5 tries to win the game 36-21.This was not a bad show by Hyndland who must take heart from this knowing that with a larger squad becoming available, they will only get better. |
