1XV v Wigtownshire - Cup Game
08/11/08
Lochinch
21 - 18

Notable lack of regular players saw the MIBs take the field with only 2 subs available.  The game started late
due to Wigtownshire being stuck in M77 traffic jam.  They kicked off, received by the two Kennys, who set up
good ball for first incursion into opponents half eventually winning a lineout with the throw in on
Wigtownshire's 22 line.  From the lineout, ball passed along the line leaving Liam with two defenders to beat,
which he did, to score in the corner.   A brilliant kick from  Keeno added the two points.

The MIBs settled down and were looking the better of the two sides.  About 10 mins into the game Nikki
collected the ball near the halfway line, romped through the Wigtownshire defence to score between the
posts.  Once again 14 - 0 up and looking good but again in the set scrum the MIB were being shunted back
only some clean hooking by Hartley and good pick ups from Kenny kept the MIB in the game.

Wigtownshire kept on the attack and with the aid of two penalties went into the MIBs red zone and, from
close in, mauled over for a try.  From the kick-off the ball was secured by the MIB and from a ruck Kenny
picked up and made a great run through the Wigtownshire defence, passed to Wildman  who scored in the
corner.  Another great kick from Keeno added the two points.

In the second half with Wigtownshire making better use of the wind than the MIBs had done and some bad
kicking out of defence by the MIBs let Wigtownshire apply pressure, win a penalty and maul over for another
try.  Up to this point the Wigtownshire players were beginning to look tired but this score rejuvenated them
and they began to look like a team that wanted to win more than the MIBs.

They scorned several chances of points from penalties opting instead for kicks to the corners which were
well defended by the MIBs.  They eventually  took the 3 points on offer to make the score 21 - 18.   This made
the last 10 minutes a nail biter but the MIBs responded well by finishing off by playing in Wigtownshire's half
and nearly scored towards the end.  The three out of three conversions by Keeno was the difference between
winning and losing.

MOM - Henderson for being very involved especially in the first half.

Team: McNaughton, Armour, Cheshire, Littlejohn, Barton, Thomson,  Henderson, McLeod, Patterson,
Keenan,  Wildman, Butler, Rossi, Bryson, Aikman.    Subs Collier, McAteer.
