1XV v Wigtownshire
18/10/08
Lochinch
27-14

On a sunny day with a half gale blowing  down a very soggy pitch the MIB kicked off with the wind.
Wigtonshire started off well against a generally disorganised home side and for the first 15 minutes
dominated most aspects of the game but it became a question of which side was winning the mistake count.
Some 20 minutes into the game the MIB made inroads into the Wigtonshire half down the left half side and
after some good pick and drives the ball passed to Chris who rounded 4 or 5 of the opposition to score.
This settled the home side who were being shunted back in the set scrum but still managed to maintain
possession by some good work by Stuart G relishing the No. 8 role and PP at scrum half.  Some 10 minutes
later Alan increased the lead with a well taken penalty.  Shortly before half time, ground gained from a penalty
and some good work and a nicely angled run by Danny who scored near the posts.  Goaled by Alan.  Much to
the surprise of everyone who thought there was not enough time left for another score the MIB did.  From the
restart the MIB were awarded a penalty and from territory gained attacked, rucked to some 20 metres out, a
good shout by Boom Boom, a long pass from PP which gave Boom Boom enough room to beat two
defenders to touch down near the posts and give the home side a comfortable half time lead.

3 minutes into second half  from a quickly taken penalty on half way line the Wigtonshire winger ran in
unchallenged to score.  The score against galvanised the MIB who started to work together and worked their
way upfield where 15 metres out Captain Kirk went into orbit, beat 5 klingons but on re-enty, crash landed,
spilling the ball over the line.  From mistakes made by Wigtonshire the MIB returned to the Wigtonshire 22
and from a set scrum pick up, PP mesmerised the Wigtonshire defence and ghosted over for a try . Bonus
points won.  Halfway through second half with Wigtonshire on attack and at a ruck, one of their players  threw
a punch and then used the knee.  After a long talk and warning from the referee he was lucky to remain on the
field but instead of giving a penalty to the MIB he awarded a scrum to Wigtonshire from which, after some
good back row play,  their no. 8 scored.  This galvanised the away side but errors started to appear, missed
passes and good chances to score going abegging.  For the home support, visions of Uddingston where we
just managed to hold on to a  28 - 14 lead with a nailbiting last 20 minutes .  However the MIB rallied and with
Marcus outstanding in defence finished the game in the comfort zone.  Why we could not play like this
throughout the game is a mystery.

MoM was between Super Mario Marcus who ran, supported and tackled  like Super Mario and Stuart Gillies.
Special mentions for Paul Sinatra Patterson the comeback king who incurred the wrath of the away support
but not the referee for mixing it with his opposite number and back row and turning over so much ball in that
area and for generally dictating play and also a mention for multi-positional Keeno for a very secure
performance at stand-off.

Team:  Watson, Mayo, Butler, Bruce, Taylor, Keenan, Paterson, NcNaughton, Aikman, Waddell, Littlejohn,
