17/03/09  Info and Upcoming Dates
This years Colour Awards / Dinner will take place on Friday, 12 June 2009 in Oran-Mor at 7pm with meal
presentations and Ceilidh band.  The colours awards have been a great night recently and with the
venue this year right in the heart of the west end it promises to be a good night once again.  Sandy
Geddes is the reigning champ and holds the MacLeod trophy for being the oldest person in the club.
Tickets are likely to go fast for this event so let
Gary, Alan or Craig know ASAP if you are interested in
going
.

The SPRA Family Day will be on Saturday 20th June.  This is a chance for us to give back something in
return for all the financial support and the facilities at Lochinch provided by SPRA.  We'll be looking for
volunteers to help out on the day - though if you're not free you can volunteer to help in the days before or
after the event

Our postponed Strathendrick match has now moved to the date of the players dinner, 2nd May.  As
always all up to date events and matches are listed in the
calendar.
05/04/09  Last Week's News
A disappointing match on Saturday saw the 8 - 5 half time points difference racked up to a 32 - 5 defeat
by the end of the game.  Though Liam's sneaky try in the first half, against the run of advice from the
touchline, proved to be one of the few things to smile about.  In the end Loch Lomond ran out worthy
winners in their last game of the season.
Match pictures are now on line.
05/04/09  This Coming Week
Training moves outdoors again at Lochinch this week. Be on the pitch changed and ready to go at 18:30
on Tuesday and Thursday.  Speak to Craig, Alan W or Chris for more information.

This coming weekend we have a change to our planned matches.  Cumnock have requested that we
move the match from the 25th April to the 11th and we have agreed.  This means that we will be
travelling down on Saturday in our third last game of the season.   If you are available to play then please
get a message to Craig ASAP.  If you are available to support then please make the effort to travel down
and shout the boys on from the touchline!
13/04/09  Last Week's News
Brilliant sunshine, a fresh breeze and fresh life in the MIB as we travelled away to Cumnock.  A full
squad with substitutes all of whom were fired up to put a bit of passion back into the play.  It wasn't
mistake free...but from the touchline it was a pleasure to watch, as the team pushed, mauled, ran and
tackled their way to a 28-10 victory, securing the bonus point.
Match pictures are now on line.

Man of the Match (MOM) went to Liam Bryson as did TOTW giving him the 'double'.  Dick of the Day went
to Stuart G for his self acknowledged 'falling asleep on the touchline.
13/04/09  This Coming Week
Training is at Lochinch this week. Be on the pitch changed and ready to go at 18:30 on Tuesday and
Thursday.  Speak to Craig, Alan W or Chris for more information.

This coming week hopefully sees the twice postponed Clydebank game finally make it on to the pitch.   A
challenging game awaits, with Clydebank no doubt champing at the bit to secure 2nd place in the
league.   If you are available to support then please make the effort to travel and shout the boys on from
the touchline!  Kick off is at 3pm at Clydebank.

A reminder that the Players dinner is fast approaching on 2nd May (after the Strathendrick match) so get
your names to Alan or Gary if you are attending.

It is likely that we will have a 2XV home game on the 25th April (or if not then a friendly will be arranged)
but we'll keep you updated when further details are known
21/04/09  Last Week's News
Ouch - definitely a sore one as a match full of running rugby allowed Clydebank to dash away to a 62 - 0
victory.
Match pictures are now on line.

Man of the Match (MOM) went to Craig Aikman and  TOTW  went jointly to Simmo and Grant.
22/04/09  This Coming Week - UPDATED
Training is at Lochinch this week. Be on the pitch changed and ready to go at 18:30 on Tuesday and
Thursday.  Speak to Craig or Alan W for more information.   Please make every effort to be at training on
Thursday as there will be some new recruits heading over to have a training session and a game of
touch with us with a view to joining in the fun next year - please try to get over there to show them all how
much fun it can be.

This coming week we have our AGM which is taking place at 13:00 at Lochinch on Saturday 25th April.
Please make every effort to be there and help shape the future of the club - every voice counts and we
need folks to show up and be heard!  It's a meet at Lochinch at 12:30, AGM at 13:00 and then at 15:00
we'll be playing a friendly against Lanark - all players should get their availability to Craig ASAP!

Finally a reminder that the Players dinner is fast approaching on 2nd May (after the Strathendrick match)
so get your names to Alan or Gary if you are attending.    Come along on the 2nd and watch Cowal play
in a league match from 12 noon, then either watch or play in our own final 1XV match of the season
before the dinner and a touch of madness and mayhem!
26/04/09  Last Week's News
An absolutely gorgeous day, in defiance of a rainy forecast, mean that the spectators were able to sip a
beer and watch some pacy fun rugby on Saturday.  The friendly against Lanark provided an opportunity
for new and newly returned players to get out on the pitch and have a good time.  The score was pretty
'even stevens' over the course of the game ending up in a 26-25 victory to Lanark. A ridiculous amount of

The popular injury of the day seemed to be the 'gashed eyebrow'.  Thankfully neither Jamie nor the
Lanark player's efforts in that direction could match up to the previous blood baths from Kenny and
Hartley and both injuries turned out to be more of the 'scratch/cut' variety.

Man of the Match (MOM) went to deservedly to Liam Bryson and  TOTW  went jointly (well it is the end of
the season after all) to Vidal and Alistair Dalgleish.
Dick of the Day was another joint award - given to
Sandy W and Tom P for some speshul 'passing' and 'not catching' opportunities.
26/04/09  This Coming Week
Training is at Lochinch this week. Be on the pitch changed and ready to go at 18:30 on Tuesday and
Thursday.  Speak to Craig or Alan W for more information.   Please make every effort to be at training this
week in preparation for the game against Strathendrick on Saturday.

This coming week we have our final league game against Strathendrick - rounding off the season
against the same side that we started against - and here's hoping for a similar result from the scoreline!
Before the Strathendrick game we have Cowal taking on McLaren at the grounds at Lochinch - kick off
for the Cowal game is 13:00.  Kick off for our own match is 15:00.

Following the game we then have the players dinner at Lochinch and all players and ex players are
cordially invited to attend - please get your names to Alan Watson or Gary Thomson to confirm
attendance.  The dinner will cost £20 a head.  Be there, dressed to impress, by 19:00.
26/04/09  The AGM
The AGM took place this Saturday at 13:30 in Lochinch.  Minutes from the meeting are available to
players in the
players section of the website.  We can confirm that Gary and Alan remain Chairman and
Treasurer respectively.  Norrie has finally decided to hang up his pen and phone and has resigned from
the role of Secretary - in his place we now have the inestimable Kenny McLeod.  We wish the very best to
Gary, Alan, Kenny and the rest of the committee and all the other folks involved in keeping the club
ticking over so smoothly - it's a thankless task for much of the season, but without their dedication there
would be no club.
19/05/09  have we got Old News For you!
Well it's horribly late, but quite frankly it's taken that long for the web team to fully recover from the final
weekend of the season!  The day kicked off with the chance to be a spectator for players and fans alike
as Cowal took on McLaren on the 1XV pitch at Lochinch, with an early (12 noon) start.  A good game to
watch and the weather was turning out to be absolutely fantastic despite a dreary forecast.  Cowal took
the honours in a fiercely fought contest.

As soon as the pitch was cleared it was the turn of the MIB who were taking on Strathendrick in a neat
'matching bookends' finish to the season - as the Strathendrick away match had been our first game of
this season - giving us our first points on the board.  I don't think anyone quite expected what followed.
Both teams poured themselves into the match and some early break away trys saw Strathendrick take
the lead only to have the MIB claw it back again.  Come half time and there were only a few points in it,
but again Strathendrick made some break away tries and the SPRFC were left with an uphill climb...and
climb they did!   Like a crazy roller coaster the fans on the touchline, from both sides, were treated to
some great rugby, some colossal nail biting moments and the occasional blunder and into the last
minute of the game we found the score at 41-41.  With 20 seconds to go, in one of life's sublime rugby
moments, a try was popped over the line giving us the victory by 46-41 - it would have brought a tear to a
glass eye!  Congratulations to everyone involved and thank you for a great afternoon's spectating!
Match pictures are now on line.  Man of the Match (MOM) went to deservedly to the whole team!

The excitement of the afternoon was followed by the annual players dinner - a remarkably civilised affair
- if you ignored the Hawaiian dancers....!  The usual jobs were given with 'Heid' being the 'janny', Ross
McN doing the photographers job and Richie making a lovely laydee! After a fine meal we were treated to
two fine speakers and Craig once more entertained and amused with his fantastic yearly
Ode to the
Season!   Congratulations also to Nik Rossi - a well deserved Player of the Year and Bob Gordon who
scooped the Clubman of the Year award.  Liam and IanW  jointly took this years Thighs of the Year
Award with Chris and Paul P running them both a close second!  Thanks to Gary and Alan who once
again surpassed themselves with organisation and to the staff at Lochinch for putting up with us all year
long!
19/05/09  What's the Goss for Next Season?
Wondering who went up....who's coming down?  Well fret no more - as you'll probably have realised
GHK topped the table, and as such are moving up into National Division 3 - congratulations to them and
we wish them all the very best.  However, there is no team to be relegated into the West division from
National 3, so we have two teams coming up from West League Division 2 to join us in WLD1.  Millbrae,
having ended the season as champions, are definitely moving up.  Carrick and Paisley have ended on
equal points with apparently one game to play a piece still.  We'll confirm which team will be moving up
as soon as it's definite - though at the moment it does look like it's Carrick.  Which will mean trips to Ayr
and Maybole (taking us deep into 'banjo country at least three times in the season if you include
Wigtownshire!).  Fixtures should be published sometime in July time and we'll put them up on the site
as soon as they are available.

The website will also be going through it's annual overhaul - there shouldn't be too much disruption but
please bear with us.  The
Forum will also be upgraded but we'll let you know exactly when that's
happening nearer the time.  As always all the latest news, gossip and fripperies are to be found in the
Forum - so if you're not already registered then make sure you sign up!
19/05/09  Social News and Events
Many of you will be aware that Andy 'Animal' is retiring (from work) and of course it wouldn't be right to
let the occasion go unmarked (activities at the players dinner not withstanding).  There will be a 'bash'
up at Lochinch on Friday 29th May and all players, friends and hangers 'oan' are cordially invited to come
along and pay their respects (or whatever else comes to mind) - it looks like it will be a cracking night
and Andy has been party of the club for many, many  years and contributed in many, many ways....so
make sure you get yourself over there!

The
Colours Dinner is taking place at Oran Mor on the 12th June.  Tickets are just £10 a head - but there
are limited numbers.  The night includes a three course meal, presentation of the SPRA awards and a
ceilidh - this is always a great night out so get your name to Gary T as soon as possible to secure your
ticket(s).

SPRA Family Day is moving to a Saturday this year and will happen up at Lochinch on 20th June.  This is
a great day out for the family and always enjoyed by everyone who attends.  As always we will be
manning the burger stall as a way of showing our appreciation to SPRA for their support of the section
over the year - it's not a lot to ask given what we get in return!  The more folks volunteer then the less
time everyone has to spend with the tongs!  Get your name to Alan or Gary ASAP - if you enjoy the
benefits of being an SPRFC player then this is your opportunity to give a bit back!

Touch Rugby.  There are plans for some summer touch rugby on Saturday afternoons but they haven't
been finalised yet - as soon as any information is available we'll publish it here!
